The Department of Trade and Industry Region 02 successfully celebrated the Great Cagayan Valley 7th Consumer Assembly with the theme “Consumer Protection in the ASEAN Community” on December 14, 2015 at the Activity Brickstone Mall, Tuguegarao City involving the youth in promoting consumer advocacies region-wide.

Regional directors and representatives from the regional line agencies as well as senior students from various secondary schools in the region attended the activity.

Former DOST Undersecretary Fortunato Dela Peña served as the keynote speaker for the event.

Technical Forums were also presented by the DTI R02 provincial directors to raise awareness and strengthen consumer protection systems in the region by sharing information on key issues and emerging consumer concerns which  includes consumer credit, hardship and debt collection, consumer product safety regulation-recalls and accident information disclosure mechanisms, consumer protection laws and regulations for online purchase, protecting consumers of telecommunications services, protecting consumers from unfair unsolicited (door-to-door) sales practices, product liability: complementing substantive law reforms to enhance incentives to supply safe consumer goods, low-cost airlines: responding to consumer complaints about misleading and unfair practices, fraud in price discounting, Statutory guarantees and quality in the supply of goods and services to consumers and money transfer fraud.

Induction of FILCOP student/officers from various secondary schools was led by Atty. Ma. Esperanza C. Bañares, DTI R02 regional director.

Highlights of DTI consumer protection projects were also presented such as the Filipino Consumers on Patrol (FILCOP) Movement and the Improved Market Operation for Vigilant, Efficient and Responsive Service (I-MOVERS) Project.

Some business establishments were also awarded with Bagwis Seal of Excellence being compliant to all fair trade laws and for practicing well-regulated business operations.
