On 19 May 2016, some SME Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) of Samahang Magsasaka ng Wacal, Inc. and Bangaan Rural Workers Association of Solano participated in the one (1) – day SMERA training on Product Standardization in Brgy. Bangaan, Solano.

The training was spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Office, under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) and in partnership with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

The training highlights the importance of product standardization as a tool in ensuring that the products produced by the ARBOs comply with quality standards. These standards will serve as the guiding principles of the SME ARBOs in processing their respective products.

Product standardization ensures compliance to specific measures of sanitation and cleanliness which improves the competitiveness of the ARBOs’ products in the local market.

By way of actual demonstration and process sampling, the Bignay wine of Samahang Magsasaka ng Wacal, Inc, fermented in various lengths of fermentation periods were subjected to taste testing to determine the wine’s standard fermentation period.

Meanwhile, the Cacao products of Bangaan Rural Workers Association were standardized on the basis of the maturity of the fruit.
