The City of Ilagan, Isabela was adjudged as the 7th Most Competitive City in the Philippines (Component and Independent Component Cities Category) during the 4th Regional Competitiveness Summit on 14 July 2016 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City.

Highlighting the summit is the launching of the 2016 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) Survey Results. Starting in 2013, the CMCI Survey is an annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities based on a framework developed by the National Competitiveness Council (NCC) through the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (US AID).

The framework integrates the three (3) pillars of local economic development, namely: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, and Infrastructure. The survey aims to serve as a diagnostic tool, investment promotion tool, and a take-off point for further research.

For the pillars of the survey, the City of Ilagan ranked 19th in Economic Dynamism, 5th in Government Efficiency, and 9th in Infrastructure. From rank 127 in 2014, the City leaped to 51st in 2015 and 7th in 2016. This shows that the City Government has taken outstanding initiatives to improve the City’s competitiveness level.

For Economic Dynamism, Santiago City ranked 12th (Component and Independent Component Cities Category). For Government Efficiency Pillar, Camalaniugan, Cagayan ranked 5th (3rd to 6th Class Municipalities Category), Santiago City ranked 6th (Component and Independent Component Cities Category) and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan ranked 12th (Component and Independent Component Cities Category). For the Infrastructure Pillar, Cabatuan, Isabela ranked 4th (3rd to 6th Class Municipalities Category) and Solano, Nueva Vizcaya ranked 9th (1st to 2nd Class Municipalities Category)

Over all, Cabatuan, Isabela ranked 8th (3rd to 6th Class Municipalities Category) and Santiago City ranked 18th (Component and Independent Component Cities Category)
