The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) headed by DTI Cagayan Municipal Trade and Industry Officer Ms. Marivic Y. Calvo together with Mayor Lolita C. Garcia of Sta. Teresita, Cagayan launched the Bakong Production Center on July 27, 2016.

The event involved showcasing of bakong weaved products such as bags, wall and home decors, among others and actual demonstration of product production.

In attendance during the inauguration were the different officials from UNDP Program, Supervising Ecosystem of CENRO Aparri and Sangguniang Bayan Member as their way of expressing support to the production center.

The Bakong Production Center was one of the Shared Service Facilities (SSF) Projects of LGU Sta. Teresita and was able to get additional funds from the Department of Labor and Employment under its Kabuhayan Program which was the foundation in establishing the center.

Bakong is an abundant ordinary growing plant in Sta. Teresita that is futile not until it was discovered its valuable fiber material used for handicrafts. 

The production and manufacturing process of Bakong plant goes with the extraction of its fiber which will become a twine rope or used for loom weaving.  The pre-processed Bakong is then dried, dyed and converted into various useful products.
