The Department of Trade and Industry Region 02, in partnership with the Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines - Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (CIAP-PCAB) and the Nueva Vizcaya Contractors Association, Inc., convened around 100 contractors from the region on April 19, 2018 at the DTI-R02 Negosyo Center in Tuguegarao City for an orientation on the new policies and guidelines on licensing procedures. The conduct of this activity came at an opportune time with the ongoing processing of applications for renewal of contractors licenses for 2018-2019 whose deadline is set on June 30, 2018.

With Ms. Carolina C. Saunar and Ms. Theresa P. Aguilar, Supervising Specialist and Senior Specialist, respectively, from PCAB as resource persons, the orientation aimed to increase contractors’ awareness on the new policies and guidelines on registration and license application. PCAB,one of the implementing Boards of the CIAP, an attached agency of the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) has come up with innovative ways to serve its stakeholders and clients more efficiently.

With the administration’s Build, Build, Build program, the construction sector is steadily growing with more contractors now registering and filing their licenses with PCAB. As of April 19, 2018, Region 02 now has over 300 licensed contractors.

In his Opening Message, OIC RD Ruben B. Diciano expressed his profound gratitude and admiration to the participants and resource persons for responding to the invitation as he committed DTI R02 to join in the advocacy to strengthen the construction sector in the region which, according to him is “one of the vital industries that provide employment opportunities.” For 2017, more or less 2,000 employment had been provided by the construction business.

The Orientation was also a venue for successful contractors to share their best practices to their fellow participants.
