A bright future awaits the coffee industry in the province of Nueva Vizcaya with the implementation of the VOICES (Vibrant Operations of Industry Clusters for Economic Sustainability (VOICES) project.

Initiated by the Department of Trade and Industry – Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Office, the VOICES aims to create sustainable industries through improved farmers’ productivity and efficiency and better - quality products that would guarantee increased sales volume, higher income and improved quality of life of Vizcayanos. The initiative is also seen as a door for investment opportunities in the province.

In the meeting of coffee industry players on April 17, 2018 in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, DTI-NV OIC Provincial Director Henry O. Conel, Jr. stressed in his message the “need to address the sustainability of the coffee industry and other priority industries in the province, hence the implementation of the VOICES project”. Mr. Alberto Pamatian, BDD Chief of DTI – NV also said, ”let us focus on strengthening the priority industries in the grassroots level as these promise great potentials for investments.”

Meanwhile, DTI-R02 OIC Regional Director Ruben B. Diciano, in his Opening Message, urged the stakeholders to take advantage of the various assistances provided by the DTI and other government agencies, and of initiatives, such as the VOICES that are undertaken to advance the coffee industry and other priority industries in the province. He said, “let us work together to create a sustainable coffee industry in Nueva Vizcaya that would contribute to a more vibrant regional economy.

The meeting, which brought together coffee industry players including coffee producers, processors, traders, owners of coffee shops and line agencies, tackled issues and concerns of the entire value chain as well as the prospects of the coffee industry. Dr. Valentino L. Macanes of Benguet State Universitydiscussed to the farmers/coffee producers the Good Agricultural Practices of coffee farmers in Benguet Province.

With pro-active stakeholders, supportive provincial government and line agencies collaborating to implement the VOICES, a bright future is seen for the coffee industry and other industries in the province of Nueva Vizcaya.
