A big boost to the mango industry in Region 02 is spotted at the business matching made between HI-LAS Marketing Corporation and the mango and pineapple growers during the recently concluded launching of the Agribusiness Support for Promotion and Investment in Regional Exposition (ASPIRE) Programin the region.

Mr. Roberto C. Amores, President – CEO of HI-LAS Marketing Corporation told mango producers: “I am the market. I will buy your mangoes and pineapple. You will sell directly to my company; you do not have to go through a trader or middleman.” Mr. Amores, who is also President of the Philippine Food Exporters and Processors Association and Chairman of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Agriculture Committee discussed market opportunities to farmers and other stakeholders during the event.

HI-LAS needs around 500 thousand metric tons of mangoes annually to supply his requirements for high grade processed mangoes and for fresh exports.

The mangoes should weigh 175 grams a piece and pineapple should be 1.4 kilogram a piece.

Ms. Vivien L. delos Santos, Chief-Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division of the Department of Agriculture (DA) - Region 02 committed DA to provide the crates that would deliver the fruits to the company’s processing plant. According to her, being able to supply a few percent of the company’s requirement will be a big boost to the region’s mango industry.

This project, once realized, would spark hope to the farmers who barely gain from relying to traders/middlemen for the market of their produce.

The Business Matching is a component activity of the three-day ASPIRE Program launching on May 9-11, 2018 conducted by the Department of Agriculture-RFO 2, Department of Trade and Industry-R02 and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Region 02
