The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Council of Tuguegaro City which was recently created by the passing of Ordinance No.17-2018 and its approval by the City Mayor Jefferson Soriano on April 11, 2018 is seen to pave the way for the advancement of the local ICT industry.

In the Council’s 1st Business Meeting on June 1, 2018 at the Tuguegarao City Hall, Mayor Soriano, Chairman and presiding officer, acknowledged the importance of the Council in the city government’s bid to develop the ICT industry in the locality. According to the Mayor, initial steps are already being undertaken in preparation for the establishment of an IT Park. In addition, he said that recently, there were initial talks with investors regarding the latter’s desire to put up a “township” in the city where BPO companies could locate. “With the Council now in place, the realization of these plans are not far-fetched”, the Mayor said as he enjoined those in the meeting to support all initiatives and the future activities of the Council.

The Meeting was attended by NEDA-2 Regional Director, TESDA-2 Regional Director and representatives of the other Council members like, DTI, CHED, DOLE, DOST, academe and private sectors.

During the meeting, DC Winston T. Singun, of DTi-Cagayan Provincial Office presented an overview of the Tuguegarao City ICT Council. On his part, Atty. Pagurayan, Executive Asstistant to the Mayor discussed the salient provisions of City Ordinance No, 17-2018 and the Executive Order creating the Tuguegarao City ICT Council.

DTI, which co-chairs the ICT Council, committed to draft a localized ICT Industry Roadmap for presentation during the 2nd ICT Council Meeting.
