Committed to collaborate with other institutions, including local government units (LGUs), in the promotion of investments in the sectors of industry and manufacturing, the Department of Trade and Industry-Region 02 gladly accepted the invitation of the Provincial Government of Cagayan to join the 1st Agkaykaysa Investment Forum on June 24, 2018.
The activity is one of the highlights of the week-long celebration of the 435th Aggao Nac Cagayan. Among the participants of the forum are the Agkaykaysa Purok Presidents and newly elected Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials from the different barangays of the province.
Mr. Michael Paggabao, Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist representing DTI-Region 02, presented a topic on Rural and Industrial Development. He started off by showing a glimpse of the economic performance of the Philippines while highlighting the contributions of the industry and manufacturing in the growth of the nation. Then he discussed the National Industrial Strategy which components include the Manufacturing Resurgence Program that aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector through cluster-based approach.
Mr. Paggabao also presented the initiatives and interventions of the region in industrial development such as the institutionalization of industry clustering through the Regional Development Council (RDC) – Economic Development Committee as well as the strengthening of industry councils and cluster teams which serve as platform for public-private partnerships. In closing, he shared the different programs and projects of DTI in support to rural, industrial and business development.
Other speakers during the activity were representatives from the National Economic Development Committee, Provincial Planning and Development Office and Provincial Tourism Office.
