The Batanes Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Council (BMSMEDC) held a consultative meeting on August 10, 2018 to discuss the MSME Development Plan 2017 – 2022 which was approved and signed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte on April 04, 2018.
DTI Batanes Provincial Director Marietta B. Salviejo presented the provisions of the MSMED Plan. According to her, in the MSMED Plan 2017-2022, government envisions a more globally competitive MSME sector that is regionally integrated, resilient, sustainable, and innovative, and performing as key drivers of inclusive Philippine economic growth.
She added that there are five strategic goals in theMSMED Plan 2017-2022, namely, improved business climate, improved access to finance, enhanced management and labor capacities, improved access to technology and innovation, and improved access to market.
PD Salviejo also stressed that under the Magna Carta for MSMEs and the Go Negosyo Act, MSMED Councils are recognized as the implementer of the said plan, hence, “the role of the Batanes MSMED Council is very crucial,” she said.
During the meeting, the Council discussed and identified programs and activities in the implementation of the MSMED Plan in the province, as well as the various issues and concerns of the MSME sector, and the interventions they need to ensure their growth and development.
Moreover, to ensure that all sectors are represented in the Batanes MSMED Council, it was proposed that other agencies be included, namely, DOLE, DAR and NCIP, Batanes Multi-Purpose Cooperative, CARD, Inc. and a representative from the food processors.
