Old clothes were given new life as they were developed into functional bags by the Rural Improvement Club of Poblacion, Aritao in Nueva Vizcaya during the 2-day Workshop on Eco-Bag Making conducted on July 3-4, 2018.
The workshop which was spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry thru its Negosyo Center, in collaboration with the Barangay Local Government Unit of Poblacion, Aritao, aimed to convert used clothes into value-added products thereby reducing solid wastes, as well as to provide livelihood for the community to augment families’ income.
The all-women members of the RIC were trained by Ms. Celyne B. Gabol, owner of Celyne’s Creations located in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya. Ms Gabol trained the women to develop bags out of old clothes. At the end of the workshop, they were left to make their own creative designs, some of which they sold to co-participants and facilitators.
The participants were grateful for the opportunity to learn new skills and for the business prospect offered to them by the DTI.
