DTI Cagayan gathered its KMME (Kapatid Mentor Micro Enterprise) graduates Batch 1 to 4 to orient them on the benefits of industry clustering, among which is establishing sustainable linkages with large enterprises and strengthening their role as suppliers and distributors within the value chain.  The activity also intended to organize the graduates and cluster them according to the seven priority industry clusters of Region 02 in order to increase the productivity in which companies within the same cluster can compete nationally and globally.  This aim is synchronized with the slogan of the KMME Program, “Angat Lahat.”

The activity was conducted on December 20 at the DTI Region 02 Negosyo Center Conference Hall in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan with 52 of the 95 KMME graduates attending.

To further capacitate and update the KMME graduates of Cagayan Province, Engr. Ma. Teresa Quintos from the Intellectual Property Office and Ms. Karen Anggangan from the Small Business (SB) Corporation discussed their programs for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The different Priority Industry Cluster Roadmaps of Region 02 namely Coffee, Cacao, Processed Fruits and Nuts, Bamboo, Homestyles and Wearables, Dairy, and, Processed Meat and Fish were presented to the participants as inputs to the workshop that followed the presentations.

Side activities included the sharing of best practices among the participating KMME graduates and a mini trade fair showcasing their products.

Guest of honor and Co-chair of the Cagayan Provincial MSME Development Council, Mr. Arturo Tabbu challenged the participants with these words: “Your business improvement plans have no value unless you act on them.” He added that “if your company’s vision is within your comfort zone, it is not a vision at all.  It does not serve a purpose for your company.”

KMME is a program launched in 2016 by the Department of Trade and Industry in partnership with the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE).  It is a coaching and mentoring program where large corporations teach MSMEs about the different aspects of business operations.  Here we have experienced company owners and managers sharing their knowledge on topics such as Entrepreneurial Mindsetting, Product Development, Marketing, Operations Management, Financial Management and Operations, Taxation, Business Plan, Resiliency Plan Development and Human Resource Management among others.

DTI Region launched the program in March 2017 and has since then conducted four runs and graduated more than 200 mentees across the five provinces of the region namely: Cagayan, Batanes, Isabela, Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya.
