October 3, 2014, Bayombong - To kick off this year’s Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) Celebration, DTI Nueva Vizcaya conducted simultaneous activities yesterday, such as the hanging of CWM streamers by different national agencies and local business establishments (BEs), monitoring compliance of BEs to the product standards law and the monitoring of Consumer Welfare Desks in business establishments with special focus on the Bagwis Awardees and nominees.
This year’s celebration is spearheaded by the Department of Energy (DOE) and carries the theme: “Sapat na Impormasyon: Susi sa Wastong Paggamit ng Enerhiya.”
DTI Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Director Ruben B. Diciano, Chief Trade and Industry Development Specialist Clifford Gregorio and Enforcement Officer Lucia P. Guerrero visited major business retail establishments to monitor their compliance to Republic Act 4109 also known as the Product Standards Law by inspecting mandatory products especially those related to energy such as LPG tanks and electrical supplies and materials. Other products monitored also include plywood, steel bars, candles, appliances, lighters.
The DTI team also distributed new Consumer Welfare Desk signage to replace the old ones to more the ten establishments visited yesterday. They are set to distribute to forty-five more establishments throughout the province during the CWM.
Other activities lined up for the CWM include an intensified consumer advocacy in tertiary schools which include the Nueva Vizcaya State University, PLT College and Saint Mary’s University, all in Bayombong.
A second run of the Diskwento Caravan will be held in Solano October 10 -12, at the Solano Plaza near the Saint Louis Parish Church. The Diskwento Caravan will have a variety of consumer goods like appliances, processed food, school supplies, fashion accessories, cosmetics, ready-to-wear clothes, fresh fruits and vegetables and other basic and prime commodities sold at discounted prices.
